It’s springtime! With the first days of spring upon us, this ‘Easter Engagement Brunch’ is the perfect way to celebrate your proposal with your loved ones. In creating this shoot, we were inspired by pops of springtime colors and a variety of fun patterns. Incorporating both color and pattern, I hand made and hand painted this white and yellow chevron stripped table! Atop the table are colored plates, polka dotted napkins, and darling tea cups at each setting. Down the center of the table is a variety of funky white vases with simple yet darling flower arrangements. And this shoot just couldn’t be complete without a couple furry friends. I mean, what’s cuter than bunnies hopping around?! Nothing says springtime love like that

Those of us who are obsessed with the book trilogy Hunger Games, know that the book inspired movie is about to hit the big screen! We thought we would channel our excitement for the movie into a wedding shoot, inspiring brides who want a gloomy yet pretty edge to their wedding. Hunger Games is all about battle and survival (I know, so sweet), and full of great symbolism. To capture the essence of the book we wanted to marry it’s theme of darkness with a pretty, symbolic wedding look.

We are thrilled that this shoot was featured on one of our favorite blogs, Green Wedding Shoes! Check out the full feature here. This shoot also hit the webpages of the Huffington Post! Yeah, that’s right. We stirred up quite the controversy and drama and with our Hunger Games photo shoot. They wrote an article about us and even called out to their Twitter followers for their thoughts on creating a wedding inspiration shoot out of a theme as strange as the Hunger Games -  most people loved it and others thought it was too weird. ha! People have been asking for my response to it (I feel like a celebrity having to speak out… don’t worry I’m not getting ahead of myself ) My response is simple. I love the thought of a shoot like this, since this book wouldn’t be a typical source to gather wedding inspiration. This shows you can be inspired by anything and incorporate it into your big day! And I mean, I’m not necessarily advocating a Hunger Games wedding (unless that’s your jam). This was just a fun shoot for inspiration. As for all the responses (good and bad), more than welcome!! I just love that everyone is talking about it (it’s like I’m Kim Kardashian for a day… I digress). Either way, I hope some people were inspired!!

Now, onto the gorgeous photos….

With a forest as our backdrop, we created a ceremony setting that was rich in meaning. The structure was draped in flowing fabric, with the front featuring a variety of ripped fabrics and rope, tied back with organic arrangements on either side. Flying up through the middle of the structure was hundreds of mini gold origami paper cranes, symbolizing the “mockingjay” that is ever present and important in the book.

A mockingjay also rested on the groom’s vest, and the bride carried a darling little bunch of flowers fastened together with rope and buttons.

Across the reception table laid many more strips of ripped fabrics and atop were organic arrangements placed in wood bowls. Gold candlesticks were nestled between the arrangements, while each place setting had a feather napkin accessory.

And finally, a unique tray of bread, cheese and berries reflected the items eaten by the characters in the book.
